I wasn't really too sure what to expect when first joining, as when I joined my last college, the promises were broken and I really wasn't comfortable, so I chose to leave. However, even though I've only had 4 days at Plymouth College of Art, I can already tell I'm going to really enjoy the next 2 years in my chosen course.
As part of our Health & Safety induction, we were advised to watch a video named 'Klaus - Forklift Driver' which indicated the dangerous events that could happen when health and safety rules are not followed as requested. Although the video was very staged and slightly bonkers, it did give me and the rest of the group an insight as to what could happen, just on a lower scale.
Working safely in a group is crucial, as it's important to make people around you feel safe and well. Being comfortable with people and friends is the key to happiness in this type of situation. In the first few days of college we were put in to groups, so we couldn't be with our friends that we'd shortly made. This, for me, is one of my fears. Being in a group of people I've never spoken to before is terrifying for me, as I'm quite shy when you first meet me. Luckily, all the groups I have been in have been lovely, and I have made some friends that I probably wouldn't have made if it wasn't for our tutors putting us in groups.
Tutorial Questions:
1: Have you handed in all of your qualifications? If not, what is missing?
All of my qualifications were given to the lady on the induction day and she took note of them. I achieved the required amount (5 GCSE's Grade A*-C including English & Maths).
2: What were you doing before this course started? Why did you choose Plymouth College of Art?
In May 2012, I had no idea what I wanted to do in my future, however throughout my GCSE years I really wanted to study Travel & Tourism. I made the quick decision of applying for City College Plymouth to study an Extended Diploma in Travel & Tourism, which started in September 2012. By Christmas, I really wasn't happy. They promised me lots of practical work and trips out to different placed associated with travel and/or tourism and in that term we only visited Paignton Zoo. I decided enough was enough and dropped out, leaving me with nothing productive to do. Work, however, offered me loads of overtime so I took the opportunity to earn myself a bit of extra money, and from January 2012-August 2013 I have worked non stop.
Moving to PCAD wasn't the plan, up until I was browsing around my bedroom and found a leaflet from PCAD, and decided to check out the website. Deep down in my gut I've always wanted to be a TV Producer or a Lighting & Sound Director for entertainment programmes such as Strictly Come Dancing. I looked on the website and found this course, and as it stated TV & Film, I decided to apply and see if it helps me achieve my dreams, and I honestly think it will.
3: Have you given us your emergency contact details?
I think so, but I can't 100% remember!
4: Have you received your Preparation for Learning tests?
Yes.
5: Do
you have any long-term goals regarding what you might want to do after this
course finishes, or regarding a career?
My ultimate goal is to be a TV Producer or Lighting & Sound Director for a type of entertainment programme. I realise I won't go straight in to this after finishing this course, but I have seen many opportunities on the BBC and ITV websites that could perhaps take me in with an apprenticeship or production runner. I don't want to stay in the South-West all my life and I have always wanted to move to a media city; such as Manchester, London or Bristol.6: What do you need to achieve whilst on this course to progress your goals?
Throughout this course there are two things that really stand out of what I want to achieve, and this being confidence and grades! I have never been confident with working with a group of people, especially those I have never met or haven't really spoken to before. The aim of this course is for me to get 3 D*'s, which I know is a high goal, but I believe if I put my mind to it, and put the effort and hard work in, I will be able to achieve this.
7: Do you think you might need any support to achieve this?
I think I will be fine, I like learning this independently but if I need help on the way I won't be afraid to ask!
Cheerio. :o)
