The music video Subterranean Homesick Blues was performed by Bob Dylan and released in 1965. As this was one of the first music videos made, its blues-rock twist inspired many other artists to create music videos within different genres.
In groups of 6, the task was to write 2 quotes of our personal choice that maybe inspired us, or was just our personal favourite, on an A3 piece of paper in black marker so it stands out on the camera. This proved to be quite tricky for most of us, but in the end we achieved some amusing yet inspiring quotes and made some successful shots.
We were scouring the college looking for funky locations, trying to be different from the other groups. In the end, we decided to film in and around the elevator. This consisted of stepping in to the elevator, waiting for the doors to to close, and when the doors were opening, we would hit the record button and film us walking out of the elevator, towards the camera with our personal quotes.
Editing the video proved to be quite tricky. We were put in to a new group of 3 and were given a Macbook, and were advised to use the program Adobe Premier Pro. None of us in our group had used this before, so we did struggle for the first 10-15 minutes of editing, but after that, we soon came to terms with the basics and began editing. The film was only about 2 minutes long so it wasn't too bad. As a group, we decided to add different groups' clips and make it quite controversial.
So that, my friends, was that. We had filmed and edited our first video in the space of our first 2 days of college. Some bits proved to be trickier than others, but hopefully the skills and knowledge of films and editing will progress in the next 2 years of this course.
Cheerio. :o)
